Lawrence D. Sloan, CAE
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Larry Sloan stepped into the role of CEO at the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) in October 2016. Prior to this, he served as CEO for seven years at the Society of Chemical Manufactures and Affiliates (SOCMA), representing the interests of the US specialty chemical industry. Larry was promoted to his first CEO role at the Adhesive and Sealant Council in January 2005 and led the group for five years.
Larry began his career as a chemical engineer at Air Products and later worked for Nalco Chemical Company in marketing, manufacturing, and sales capacities.
Larry earned a BS in chemical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and later received his MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. In 2006, Larry received his Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation through the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). Currently he serves in a leadership role on the ASAE Foundation’s Research Committee. He has also spoken at ASAE national conferences and other events over the years.
Prior volunteer leadership roles while working in the trade association space include: board member and chair of the National Association of Manufacturers’ Council of Manufacturing Associations; board member of the Societe de Chemie Industrielle; executive committee member of the Chemical Heritage Foundation’s Joseph Priestly Society; and as board member of the Chemical Educational Foundation.
Mark Ames, MA
DIRECTOR, GOVERNMENT RELATIONS
Mark Ames joined AIHA in 2016 from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). While there, he co-led their DC-based Government Affairs Office, providing strategic direction in the development of their public policy priorities and representing the organization's membership to Congress, the White House, and multiple Federal Agencies, including NIOSH and OSHA.
Responsible for the development of policy recommendations in all issue areas, Mark also provides direction to AIHA's Board of Directors and the Association's Local Sections for government affairs activities, improving coordination, messaging, and effectiveness.
Mark holds a Master’s Degree in Applied Politics and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from The American University (AU) and is a graduate of the university's Public Affairs and Advocacy Institute.
Bethany Blue Chirico, CMP, CAE
MANAGING DIRECTOR, GLOBAL MEETINGS AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Bethany Chirico is the Director of Global Meetings and Expositions. She is responsible for planning, implementation, and management of logistical operations at AIHce EXP, Product Stewardship Conference, and all other AIHA meetings and expositions. She melds a strong understanding of adult learning techniques with best practices in meetings management to create unrivaled educational and networking experiences at AIHA.
Prior to joining AIHA, Bethany was Vice President, Events Management and Delivery at the American Bankers Association and Director of Conference and Meetings for the National Association for College Admission Counseling.
Bethany holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism degree from The Ohio State University and the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation.
Belinda D’Agostino, BSN, CPA
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Belinda D’Agostino is the Chief Financial Officer for the American Industrial Hygiene Association and its related limited liability companies and foundations. Belinda oversees and manages AIHA’s finances, budgets, office operations, and member & customer services. She began her career in finance in public accounting, working both in audit and tax. Prior to joining AIHA, she was the Director of Finance at the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry. She also worked in several positions at the American Nurses Association.
Belinda received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Virginia and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is also a Certified Public Accountant.
Susan Marchese, MS
MANAGING DIRECTOR, MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS
As the Managing Director of Marketing and Communications, Sue develops strategies and directs all marketing campaigns for AIHA’s various entities. She has worked in the marketing and communications field for more than twenty years in both the not-for-profit and corporate sectors. Sue has been with AIHA since 2014.
With her wide range of experience, including running the international marketing department in the auditory division of Boston Scientific, serving as executive director of Hearing Health Foundation and The National Campaign for Hearing Health for 5 years, Sue continues to bring innovative, engaging, and impactful ideas to grow AIHA. She earned a BS in Political Science and International Relations from Fairfield University and holds a Master of Science, Organizational Development degree from New School University.
Cheryl O. Morton
MANAGING DIRECTOR, AIHA LABORATORY ACCREDITATION PROGRAMS, LLC
Cheryl O. Morton is Managing Director of AIHA Laboratory Accreditation Programs, LLC, spearheading all business and technical aspects of the accreditation programs. Cheryl has served in this capacity since 2005 after serving in two senior-level positions with chemical industry trade associations.
From 1999 until 2005, she was Managing Director of the Long-Range Research Initiative at the American Chemistry Council, where she funded and managed research projects on exposure analysis, bio-monitoring, and children’s health. She has also served as Director, Regulatory and Technical Affairs, of the Society of Chemical Manufactures and Affiliates (SOCMA), where she was responsible for advocacy and compliance assistance activities for small specialty and batch chemical companies.
Cheryl holds Bachelor of Science degrees in both Chemistry and Environmental Science from the George Washington University.
DIRECTOR, AIHA REGISTRY PROGRAMS, LLC;
DIRECTOR, AIHA PROFICIENCY ANALYTICAL TESTING PROGRAMS, LLC
Angela began her career as microbiology technician and joined AIHA Laboratory Accreditation Programs (LAP) in 2005 as a Laboratory Accreditation Specialist. Angela has held many positions at AIHA since 2005 including: Project Coordinator for Volunteer Engagement; Accreditation Manager; AIHA Registry Programs Manager; PAT Programs Manager; and PAT Quality Manager, often concurrently.
Presently, Angela’s education, skills, and experience allow her to monitor and evaluate the day-to-day operations of both the AIHA Registry Programs and the AIHA Proficiency Analytical Testing Programs, as the Director of Operations for both entities. Angela is constantly striving to improve the Registrant and participant experience, internal customer service operations, policies, and procedures. Angela attended George Mason University where she earned a BS in Biology and is also a Certified Quality Auditor through the American Society for Quality.
Alla Orlova, MA
MANAGING DIRECTOR, EDUCATION AND TECHNICAL INITIATIVES
Alla has been a pioneer in education since she was invited to teach Russian on television for PBS in Columbia, SC. She has been at the forefront of developing distance learning initiatives online ever since.
Beginning her career as a foreign language teacher at public school and PBS, Alla quickly transitioned to developing e-learning programs at Capitol College. For 12 years she served at the American Institute of Architects, developing that association's e-learning program. Since then, Alla has spent her career supporting professionals through continuing education.
Alla earned her MA in Teaching English and German Languages at St. Petersburg State Pedagogical University and has spent 14 years in the nonprofit and association space, and more than 25 years in various education endeavors.
Franky Spangler, SHRM-SCP
DIRECTOR, HUMAN RESOURCES
Franky joined AIHA as the Director of Human Resources in 2018. She brings with her experience as an HR Department of One and many years wearing multiple hats in smaller organizations in both nonprofit and for-profit organizations. As Director of Human Resources, Franky is responsible for the strategy and operations from the viewpoint of what is best for the organization and the employees in tandem. This includes being hands-on and supporting organizational and strategic business initiatives while engaging the staff and helping to shape the culture of the Association.
She holds her Professional in Human Resources (PHR) from the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) and is a Senior Certified Professional through the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM-SCP). In addition, she holds a Bachelor of Arts from The George Washington University and a Certificate in Human Resources Management from George Mason University.
